ABOUT

In August of 2023, The Shoreline Astronomical Society (SAS) was founded to connect our local, shoreline communities to the night sky.  Our first elections were in early 2024 and have accumulated a small but impactful telescope library thanks to the generosity of our neighbors.

Our meetings are hosted every 2nd Thursday of each month at Deer Lake Outdoor Center (Formerly Deer Lake Scout Camp) in Killingworth.  Our partnership with Deer Lake Outdoor Center allows us to hold meetings in beautiful spaces as well as a dark sky observing site.  We are grateful for both.

We believe that astronomy and the night sky should be accessible to all.  This is a hobby that contains a myriad of special topics of interest.  Some might pursue astrophotography, amateur telescope making, visual observing, sketching, meteor hunting, eclipse chasing, star lore, and mythology associated with the constellations, archeoastronomy, socializing, outreach, or just plain exploring something new.  No path or level of interest is more valid than the other.  All are welcome, to visit with us, to join us, and participate with us.

Membership has benefits (which can be found on the Meetings & Membership Page), namely access to loaner telescopes and automatic membership with the Astronomical League.

Currently, (though not limited to) we are an astronomy club for Guilford, Madison, Killingworth, and Clinton Connecticut.
