TELESCOPE LIBRARY

The Shoreline Astronomical Society is fortunate to have a small library of donated telescopes that may be checked out free of charge by paid members. If you are new to astronomy, this is a great way to begin observing without purchasing a telescope.

LENGTH OF LOANS

In general, the length of a telescope loan will be for a month at a minimum.  Other members may request a scope via email or at the general meetings.  If no request is made for the telescope you have checked out you can consider your loan renewed.  Telescope exchanges should be coordinated between members. In the future, we may choose to elect an equipment manager.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Members should care for the equipment to ensure that it remains in usable condition for other members when their loan is complete.  A reminder that these are loans and that members may be contacted via email in the event of a lengthy loan, or a special club event where the telescopes are needed.  Finally, telescope exchanges should occur in a timely fashion to ensure all members share in this benefit fairly.

Please join us for our general meeting and observation session. Our March Meeting will emphasize observing under the dark sky conditions at Deer Lake (keep your fingers and toes crossed for good weather!) Please feel free to arrive around 6 PM to set up your telescope. General Updates will be provided by the club president on the field. We'll meet in Clifton Hall for general updates if the weather turns unfavorable for observing. March 14th Observing Session Report

Hi All, What a night!  Thank you all for your continued support, here's a rundown of the evening: 1. We all arrived early and had to wait patiently for the sun to set before beginning our observation session.  An action item for me is to reach out and confirm that a 7:30 PM start time for the warmer months will work for Deer Lake.   2. The scouts from Troop 7 in Clinton arrived and shared the night sky with us!  Approximately 12 troops and their family members attended.  They brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the observation field and made me feel like we're not only an astronomy club for astronomers but connecting with the local community.   A quick estimate puts the evening's attendance around 18-20 people. Thank you all for your help! 3. We had 9 telescopes on the field tonight!  4 of which were club telescopes and 2 brought by the scouts!   The big red 10" Dob got some good use from everyone and is going home with Lou for a while to be used and enjoyed Paul
